Planning and Concepts Fire Protection Solutions for the Petrochemical Industry Due to the quick increase in temperature and the high intensity of the fire in hydrocarbon fires, fire protection measures as usually applied in structural engineering are frequently not suitable to protect constructions in the petrochemical industry. But how are things looking in the petrochemical industry? Unlike in structural engineering, here we do not have a fire development in accordance with the standard temperature-time curve, but with a rapid increase of the temperature within a few minutes to more than 1,000°C. This fire development is represented in the hydrocarbon curve (HC). If the burning media escapes under high pressure, we refer to a Jet Fire (ISO 22899-1).
